A familiar face will make its return when the NFL is fully back in Week 1. Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss will appear on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” after taking time off last season due to a cancer diagnosis.

Moss spoke about that diagnosis on “Good Morning America” on Thursday, saying he was overwhelmed when he found out he had Stage 2 bile-duct cancer.
“I just think that when you live your life, you know, a certain type of way of, you know, eating right, taking care of your health, and all of a sudden you get diagnosed with cancer. … I was overwhelmed. It hit like a ton of bricks.”
Moss underwent a six-hour procedure to remove parts of his organs. He then took part in radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
During his recovery, Moss credited his wife, Lydia, for her constant support. Lydia said she was determined to be by Randy’s side no matter what, even if he “tried to push us away.” Randy said he passed that message along to Colorado head coach Deion Sanders when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer in the offseason, per GMA.
“One thing that my wife told me is, ‘Man, get on out here and let the family love you. They miss you,'” Moss recalled. “So, that’s the same message I gave Coach Prime, and he did that, and right when he did that, he texted me back a couple days and told me thank you.”
Sanders had his bladder removed in the offseason and said in July he was “cured” of cancer. Despite the diagnosis and surgery, Sanders said he would coach Colorado again in 2025. He did just that during the team’s first game of the season, a 27-20 loss to Georgia Tech in August.

When Moss appears on “Sunday NFL Countdown” during Week 1, it won’t mark his first appearance back on television since his diagnosis. Moss made an appearance on the program ahead of Super Bowl LIX. He and the rest of the hosts were immediately emotional upon Moss’ return, shedding tears because their co-host was back. Moss also appeared on ESPN’s “College Gameday” on Monday.
