Jordan Cox has been rewarded for his outstanding form in The Hundred with a call-up to the squad for the three T20s in Ireland later this month.

Cox was the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 367 and was named Most Valuable Player as his Oval Invincibles won a third successive title.

The 24-year-old was initially left out of the squads for the ongoing white-ball series against South Africa and the matches against Ireland that follow.

He will now join a group in Dublin that largely does not include any of England’s multi-format players, who will rest before this winter’s Ashes series.

The team in Ireland will be led by Jacob Bethell, who at 21 is set to become the youngest man to captain England in an international.

Head coach Brendon McCullum is also skipping the series, leaving Marcus Trescothick in charge.

Cox has previously played three one-day internationals and two T20s, both in 2024.

But he has suffered huge misfortune with injuries when around the England Test squad.

He was in line for a Test debut in New Zealand last winter, only to suffer a broken thumb in the nets.

Cox then had to withdraw from the squad for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May because of a side injury sustained playing for Essex.

England’s three T20s against Ireland, all in Dublin, take place on 17, 19 and 21 September.

England T20 squad for Ireland: Jacob Bethell (capt), Rehan Ahmed, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jos Buttler (wk), Jordan Cox, Liam Dawson, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt (wk), Luke Wood.
