Chael Sonnen only lasted seconds with Craig Jones in their superfight.
Sonnen was a late replacement for Gable Steveson against Craig Jones in Sunday’s Craig Jones Invitational 2 from Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Their match was scheduled for three five-minute rounds.
Jones tapped Sonnen twice with a buggy choke, putting him out in the second submission attempt.
Sonnen took Jones to the mat right off the bat, but was caught in a buggy choke which appeared to put him to sleep. However, Sonnen regained conscious right away, and the pair agreed to continue the match.
The two-time UFC title challenger took Jones down again, before getting caught in a second buggy choke that put him out. Sonnen got the crowd behind him in an attempt to make it a best three out of five, but a laughing referee John McCarthy called off the matchup.
