Raul Rosas Jr. won’t fight at Noche UFC 3 after he was forced out of his scheduled matchup against Rob Font at the upcoming card taking place in San Antonio on Sept. 13.
Sources told MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck that Rosas was out of the fight with the search ongoing for a potential replacement to face Font on the card. Wristlock MMA initially reported the news on social media.
It’s disappointing news for Rosas, who has been asking for a chance to face a ranked opponent with hopes of proving himself against the upper echelon of the bantamweight division. Overall, Rosas sports a 5-1 record in the UFC and he’s currently riding a four-fight win streak.
Rosas stormed into the UFC as a teenager and made immediate waves but ultimately suffered a loss in his second appearance with the promotion. He bounced back in strong fashion but it appears he’ll have to wait until a later date to make his return to action in the UFC.
As for Font, he’ll have to play the waiting game in hopes that the UFC can find him a new opponent.
Font is currently riding a two-fight win streak with decision victories over Jean Matsumoto and Kyler Phillips.
With Rosas vs. Font off, the UFC did add a new matchup with Alexander Hernandez making a quick turnaround following a win over Chase Hooper when he clashes with Diego Ferreira in a lightweight matchup. Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed that new matchup is booked with Rosas vs. Font no longer happening.
Noche UFC 3 features a featherweight fight between Diego Lopes and Jean Silva in the main event.
The full bout order is still to be determined ahead of the Sept. 13 card in Texas.
