Despite getting a UFC contract to enter the division where he is champion, Dana White’s Contender Series signee Louis Lee Scott calls Merab Dvalishvili his favorite fighter.
Lee Scott (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has championship aspirations of his own in the bantamweight division, but knows it’s a long way down the line after being selected for a contract by the UFC CEO. His only focus now is his UFC debut, showing he can make weight consistently after a stumble on the scale, then climb the ranks.
“Fighting is not a straight road,” Lee Scott told MMA Junkie. “The goal is obviously to be champion, but however we get there is however we get there. I can’t make a certain way to make that happen. I’ve just got to deal with everything that’s put in front of me.”
As Lee Scott, 25, looks to make an impact in the octagon over the long term, he said he will continue to look up to Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) and his ways of success. The reigning titleholder next meets Cory Sandhagen (18-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) in the UFC 320 co-main event on Oct. 4 in Las Vegas, and Lee Scott will continue to marvel at the traits that make “The Machine” who he is and implement them into his game.
“I don’t see anyone beating Merab for a while,” Lee Scott said. “He’s a serious problem. He’s my favorite fight in the UFC at the minute because he’s just got unbelievable cardio, unreliable grit. It blows my mind. I’d love to train with him to be honest. See how conditioning is and how he gets that fit. Because I think I’m pretty fit, but there’s fitness, then there’s fitness, and that is the fittest guy in the UFC by a mile. The guy just goes gear five, 100 percent for 25 minutes.”
