Bryan Battle makes weight for Dirty Boxing 3 just days after UFC release

Bryan Battle finally defeated his most difficult opponent: the scale.

Winner of The Ultimate Fighter 29, Battle was putting together a good run in the UFC, but the past year has proven to be a difficult one. After missing weight for his welterweight bout against Randy Brown this past December, Battle moved up to middleweight for a scheduled bout against Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC 319.

However, Battle came in at 190 pounds — 4 pounds over the 186-pound limit — and the fight was ultimately cancelled. In the aftermath, Battle was released from the UFC, but quickly signed with Mike Perry’s Dirty Boxing promotion, where he competes this Friday. And this time, he successfully made the weight.

On Thursday, Battle came in at the 186-pound weight limit for DBX 3, which takes place at The Hangar at Regatta Harbour in Miami. He faces Derik de Freitas, who also successfully made weight.

The main event of DBX 3 is a heavyweight title fight between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Rakim Cleveland. The card also features a number of other MMA standouts including Hector Lombard, Alex Caceres, Chase Sherman, and Phil Hawes.
