PIERRE — Mitchell’s Everett Morrison was sharp on Tuesday to claim the Pierre Invitational individual medalist honors at the Hillsview Golf Course.
Morrison shot a 3-under-par 69, topping Watertown’s Gavin Neyens and Will Peterson each by a stroke, as they finished with scores of 70.

Morrison, a Kernel senior, was tops in the field of 86 players with four birdies and a bogey to post the 69. He birdied the par-4 No. 3 and No. 6 holes on the front nine, birdied at the par-5 No. 13 hole and then bounced back from a bogey at No. 15 with a birdie at the par-4 last hole.
In the team standings, Mitchell finished in third place out of 14 teams, shooting 297. The Kernels were seven shots behind team champions Watertown, which fired a 2-over score of 290 as a team. Brandon Valley was second with a mark of 292, with Yankton following Mitchell in fourth with 300 team strokes and Tea Area at 308.
After Morrison for the Kernels, Asher Dannenbring finished 12th in the individual standings with a 1-over-73, while Carter McCormick was 15th with a 3-over-75.
Matthew Mausycki shot a round of 80, finishing in 30th place, Dawson Adams had a round of 81 to tie for 35th place and Jordan Meyerink was tied for 39th with an 82 for Mitchell.
Mitchell is back on the course on Thursday, Aug. 28 at Broadland Creek Golf Course for the Huron Invitational.
