Video: Amateur reffing skills on display in Montana amateur TKO

If Trent Edwards goes pro some day, the odds he’ll be in the same situation he was in Saturday are slim to none.

Edwards brought his 1-4 amateur record to a middleweight fight with Louis Delgado, who was 0-2, in Havre, Mont., for Fusion Fight League. Edwards finished Delgado with a TKO in the third round after dropping him with leg kicks.

But the oddity came when the referee wasn’t satisfied with Delgado falling to the canvas after another successive leg kick and immediately covering up – including his head. Edwards walked off with what he presumed was a TKO, given Delgado exhibited every sign of being done.

But while Delgado was covering up on the mat, and Edwards was walking away, he turned to see why the fight wasn’t stopped. Edwards even paused to put his hands on his hips to look at the ref, as if to say, “What do you want from me?”

The referee told him to keep fighting. Edwards landed a few inconsequential punches to Delgado on the canvas before the ref stepped in to stop things.
