UFC announces fight card in Des Moines for first time in company history

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will host an event in Des Moines for the first time on May 3 at Wells Fargo Arena, the mixed martial arts company announced on Wednesday.

It’ll be the UFC’s first event in Iowa since UFC 26, which was held in Cedar Rapids in June 2000.

The “Fight Night” card will feature a bantamweight headliner between Cory Sandhagen and Deiveson Figueiredo. Bo Nickal, a three-time NCAA national wrestling champion out of Penn State, will face Reinier de Ridder in a welterweight bout. Jeremy Stephens, a Des Moines native, will make his UFC return against Mason Jones in a lightweight showdown.

Tickets will go on sale on March 21.
