The Pittsburgh Penguins appear to have found yet another potential gem in their 2024 draft class.

On Sunday, the Penguins signed fourth-round pick (111th overall) Chase Pietila to a three-year entry-level contract, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced.

Since Pietila is 21, the contract will begin next year (2025-26) and run through the end of the 2027-28 season.

The 6-foot-2, 186-pound right defenseman has spent the last two seasons playing for the Michigan Tech Huskies. In 36 games this season, he matched his career-high of 22 points set last season, and through two seasons, he has amassed 10 goals and 44 points in 76 NCAA games.

Pietila is just one of several defensive prospects that the Penguins have in their system. The young blueliner has a nice all-around skillset and has shown some offensive upside, but his most likely path to the NHL will be as a steady, shutdown defenseman.
