The Rangers are also reportedly retaining 50 percent of Smith’s salary, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season.
This all comes after the Rangers held out Smith for the past three games due to roster management-related reasons.
Smith spent six seasons with the Golden Knights and won a Stanley Cup with the organization in 2023, so it makes sense that he returns to Vegas where he’s had some of the most success in his career.
The 33-year-old forward recorded 10 goals, 19 assists and 29 points in 58 games with the Rangers while averaging 15:36 minutes.
Brisson was selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights. He’s only played in 24 NHL games since being drafted.
Standing at 6’0’’, the 23-year-old center is built like a power forward as he still has the potential to be a reliable player for the Rangers down the road.
For now, Brisson will play with the Hartford Wolf Pack of The American Hockey League.
