The New Jersey Devils are looking to add to their roster by the 2025 NHL trade deadline. This is because they are among the top teams in the NHL, and superstar forward Jack Hughes is now dealing with an injury. Thus, the Devils undoubtedly should be looking to make moves over the next few days.

The Devils reportedly have made it clear that they are interested in one of the game’s best players. During the latest episode of TSN’s Insider Trading, Pierre LeBrun reported that the Devils have contacted the Carolina Hurricanes expressing interest in superstar forward Mikko Rantanen.

“They’ve [Devils] already called Carolina, for example, and said ‘hey, if you’re doing something with Rantanen by Friday, in terms of flipping him, let us know,'” LeBrun said. “I’m not sure if Carolina wants to deal him to the team that they might play in the first round, but it’s an example of the eagerness and the way New Jersey may approach this deadline in the next three days.”

This is certainly an interesting development, but it is also easy to understand why the Devils want to add Rantanen. He would be a massive addition to a Devils club looking for another star in their top six. However, as LeBrun noted, the Hurricanes trading Rantanen to a division rival and potential playoff opponent is a major obstacle in a potential swap.

However, Devils fans will certainly pay attention to this over the next few days. In 60 games this season split between the Colorado Avalanche and Hurricanes, Rantanen has 27 goals, 70 points, and a plus-10 rating.
