The Canucks calling up Lekkerimäki is not a big surprise considering Head Coach Rick Tocchet discussed the possibility on Monday. In speaking about the 20-year-old, Tocchet said, “Yeah, he’s got a great shot. He also has to get the inside. He’s got to be able to play that style of play. So when he comes up here, it’ll be his third time. If he comes up, and there’s a good chance he will, hopefully, he acquires that inside game, which he can do. He’s got a hell of a pair of mitts on him.”

Lekkerimäki has been on fire in the AHL this season. The Swedish winger has 19 goals in 32 points and is averaging 3.63 goals per game. During his previous two stints in the NHL, Lekkerimäki produced two goals, three points and 16 shots in 11 games.

Vancouver plays their final game before the 2025 NHL trade deadline on Wednesday when they take on the Anaheim Ducks. This will be the second meeting in a week between these two division rivals, with the Ducks defeating the Canucks 5-2 last Thursday. Puck drop from Rogers Arena is set for 7:30 pm PT.
