The 2025 NFL scouting combine is here and with it, the official kickoff of the 2025 NFL Draft season.
The NFL invited 329 players to Indianapolis for the annual event, where players work out, teams get to interview them and coaches and front-office personnel from around the league address the media with the final recaps of the 2024 season and start looking ahead to 2025.
The Tennessee Titans have the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. The last time they picked first was in 1978, when they — then the Houston Oilers — selected Heisman Trophy-winning running back and eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. This season’s Heisman winner, Travis Hunter, will be in Indianapolis. The two-way superstar is listed as a cornerback, but may work out with the defensive backs and wide receivers, should he take the field.
“I couldn’t be more confident that this will be a non-factor where he’s drafted,” Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said. “He will put on a show at his pro day.”
Carter will still participate in Penn State’s pro day on March 28.

NFL rule changes incoming
The NFL is contemplating rule changes for the 2025 season in Indianapolis. One of the bigger changes will be the chain gang becoming the backup measuring system.
According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Hawk-Eye virtual measurement for line to gain will replace the chains as the primary measurement system for the upcoming regular season. That will cut the measuring time by more than half.
The NFL is also preparing to review overtime rules, and considering adding more fouls for replay assist only when a flag is thrown on the field.

No injuries on the ‘Tush Push’ last season
While plenty in the league are one again trying to ban the “Tush Push” this offseason, the NFL said Wednesday that its data showed there were no injuries on the play across the league at all last season.
Tom Brady apparently ran into Matthew Stafford at a ski resort in Montana recently, though there wasn’t any “recruiting” going on to try and get Stafford to join Brady’s team in Las Vegas.

The Rams have said their “first goal” is to keep Stafford on their team moving forward, but they are fine with him gauging his value this offseason.
“There does have to be an element of understanding, well, what does that future look like without this freakin’ G that’s been our quarterback for the last four years? And there’s no wrong or right way to go about it, but I do think for us to be able to make the most educated decision in terms of the cash budget that we operate on, the draft comp that you would get in return, you just need to be able to have all the parameters to at least explore it,” McVay said, via ESPN. “Don’t have to do anything in secret, want to make sure that we’re all abreast of the situation, even though the first goal in mind is to have you come back here as the quarterback.”

Packers reportedly listening to offers for CB Jaire Alexander
“We’ve never really allowed agents to go out and talk to teams,” Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said this week at the NFL scouting combine. “I think that’s kind of [one of the] ones that probably happens anyway. And Jaire’s got a great agent. If we ever went down that route, I think it would be very easy to work with him and his team. I don’t really expect that, but we’ve never really done that.
“I think it’s something that if we were going to trade a player, we would do that and it would be the conversation between me and the other team.”
Injuries and suspension have limited the 28-year-old Alexander to 14 total games over the past two seasons. His 2024 season ended in early January after undergoing surgery to repair a damaged PCL.

NFLPA team report cards: Josh Harris drastically improves Commanders while Woody Johnson instills ‘culture of fear’
When the Washington Commanders ranked as the lowest-graded workplace in the league last year, new team owner Josh Harris responded bluntly: “I’m not an F-minus guy.”
After a season to implement changes in the wake of Daniel Snyder’s forced sale, Harris proved it as the league’s consecutive-year 32nd team jumped to 11th place in the NFLPA’s annual “report card” survey.
First-year head coach Dan Quinn ranked as the league’s most-liked coach as he took a 4-13 Commanders team to 12-5 and an NFC title game appearance in his debut year. The Commanders also improved their food services, travel and family accommodations as they rose from an F-minus workplace grade to B.
In contrast, the New York Jets fell from the 21st-ranked team to the 29th as players reported concerns that team owner Woody Johnson was not willing to invest in improvements (Johnson ranked last), did not contribute to a positive culture (last) and did not commit to building a competitive team (second-last).
“They talked about the culture — it’s a problem, top down,” NFLPA chief strategy officer J.C. Tretter said of the Jets’ response. “[They said,] ‘It’s a culture of fear here.’ And I think that stood out in those grades.”
Penn State DE Abdul Carter confident he should be the No. 1 pick
“I feel like it’s very realistic,” Carter said on Wednesday. “I feel like I’m the best player in the country and the best player should be picked first. It’s the work I put in with my dad, who trained me, and all the sacrifices I made, I know I’m the best.”
Carter will not work out this week as he’s healing from a shoulder injury and he’ll show off his skills to scouts at his Penn State pro day.

Titans LB Harold Landry reportedly allowed to seek a trade
Titans Pro Bowl LB Harold Landry has been reportedly allowed to seek a trade, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 28-year-old is due a $17.5 million base salary for the 2025 season. He played every game last season and recorded 9 sacks, 71 tackles and 18 pressures.

Browns not interested in trading Myles Garrett
The Browns still don’t have any interest in trading Myles Garrett despite his request to get out of the city.
“We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns,” general manager Andrew Berry said on Tuesday. “We don’t have an interest in trading Myles.”

Jason Peters is calling it a career. The longtime offensive lineman is retiring after 19 seasons in the league, the Seattle Seahawks announced on Tuesday. Peters, 41, is a nine-time Pro-Bowler and helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl during the 2018 campaign.
He joined the Seahawks last offseason after short stints with both the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys.
