Knicks center Ariel Hukporti out several weeks with suspected torn meniscus

Knicks reserve center Ariel Hukporti will be out for several weeks with a suspected torn meniscus, according to SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley.

ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the injury, which Hukporti sustained when making the first start of his NBA career on Wednesday night with Karl-Anthony Towns out due to injury.

The rookie has impressed in the reserve role, winning playing time in the absence of Mitchell Robinson, who is progressing toward a return in the coming days.

Hukporti has appeared in 25 games this season, averaging 1.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game.

He scored eight points (4-for-5 from the floor) with two rebounds and a block in 16 minutes in his lone start of the season in the win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

Hukporti, a second-round pick this past year, had seen more time of late appearing in nine of the Knicks’ last 10 games in February and playing 10.8 minutes per night with 2.4 points and 2.6 rebounds.
