Golden Knights Look For Improved Performance Against Blackhawks

The Vegas Golden Knights fell short to the Los Angeles Kings in their last time out and will look to regain their form against the Chicago Blackhawks.

It was a 5-2 defeat against the Kings, but it was a game that the Golden Knights had every opportunity to win. They found themselves trailing by one after the first period, but goals from Brayden McNabb and Mark Stone had the Golden Knights entering the final frame with the lead. Four unanswered goals by the Kings in the third period put the game out of reach.

The Kings are among the NHL’s best defensive teams and the Golden Knights’ opponents tonight, the Blackhawks, are on the opposite spectrum. They ranked 30th in goals allowed and 30th in shots allowed. Despite the woeful defensive numbers and subpar offensive numbers, the Blackhawks got the better of the Golden Knights in their last meeting.

The month of January wasn’t very kind to the Golden Knights and it was highlighted by a loss to the 31st place NHL team. Over the course of the game against the Blackhawks, the Golden Knights held the lead and were tied but ultimately gave up a late second period goal and an early third period goal, resulting in the loss.

The Golden Knights appear to have fixed some structural issues and are playing more consistent hockey and they’ll be hoping tonight’s fixture is less of what happened last time out.

“Play winning hockey, that’s what I’d like to see, for 60 minutes,” said HC Bruce Cassidy following Monday’s loss.

The Edmonton Oilers remain two points back of the Golden Knights in the race for the Pacific Division lead and tonight’s opportunity is a great one for the Golden Knights to extend their lead.

Ilya Samsonov was in goal for the Golden Knights last time out, which likely indicates that Adin Hill will retake the crease tonight.
