BOSTON, MA — The Boston Bruins have placed former New York Islanders forward Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers ahead of their matchup against Long Island.

Boston claimed Wahlstrom off of waivers from New York on December 14th.

After being selected 11th overall by the Islanders in 2019, Wahlstrom battled for a consistent roster spot before tearing his ACL under former head coach Lane Lambert. Wahlstrom fell out of favor with current head coach Patrick Roy and eventually made his way onto waivers.

The winger has struggled to find his footing with the Bruins, tallying only one goal and one assist in 16 games with his new team. Wahlstrom’s statline is a continuation of his troubles with the Islanders, where he scored two goals with two assists for four points in 27 games prior to being claimed.

Wahlstrom hasn’t found the trust of Bruins head coach Joe Sacco, as he’s received only 10:30 of ice time on average. This notches barely above Wahlstrom’s average ice time of 10:04 under Patrick Roy.

A return to the Island seems unlikely for Wahlstrom, but the winger could be claimed by another team. If Wahlstrom passes through waivers, he’ll be assigned to the Bruins’ AHL affiliate in Providence.
