EDMONTON – Ruh-roh.

The Edmonton Oilers received a poor goaltending performance in Saturday’s loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. Starting goalie Stuart Skinner had five goals sneak past him.
The Oilers would go on to lose 6-3.
In light of this, Oilers fans are clamoring for a goalie upgrade. One of the options with the most chatter around them is Anaheim Ducks netminder John Gibson.
John Gibson has an upper-body injury and will not return to this game. Lukas Dostal is now in net for us.

Now, there might be some bad news on that front.
After stopping 19 of 20 shots in the first two periods of play, Gibson didn’t come out to play in the third. A post from the Ducks social media team on X reported that Gibson “has an upper-body injury and will not return to this game.”

Reportedly, Gibson wants to go to the Carolina Hurricanes or the Oilers. Without knowing the severity of the injury, it’s impossible to tell if a trade involving the goaltender is still possible.
The Ducks are playing the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday, so there is likely an update on the goaltender’s status before the puck drops. With a 4:00 PM Mountain Time start, more information should be out Sunday afternoon.
Until then, Oilers fans can either wait with baited breath for an update on the potential trade target or start dreaming of other scenarios involving the team acquiring a different goaltender.
Either way, the Oilers are back in action on Sunday as well. They will go toe-to-toe with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, who just spanked the Pittsburgh Penguins 8-3 on Saturday.
