Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess is confident he will be at the team’s Super League match against Wigan Warriors in Las Vegas next week despite encountering issues with obtaining a visa to enter the United States.
Burgess reportedly travelled to the US embassy in London in order to get his visa approved in time for the fixture on Saturday, 1 March.
The Wire are due to fly out this Sunday, six days before the match.
However, Burgess said following Warrington’s win against Catalans Dragons on Friday that a decision may not be made in time for him to travel with his squad and backroom team.
“It’s been a bit of a process over the past couple of days,” Burgess told BBC Radio Merseyside.
“My visa application is in now for review and it’s been going on for a little while.
“I respect the process and everyone’s efforts to get it to this point, but it’s essentially out of my control so we’ll see what the next 24 hours bring.
“I think I’ll get there. I’m confident I’ll get there. A lot of work has gone into it.”
When asked if he knew the reason why there was a delay in processing his visa, Burgess said he did but that he did not want to speak about it.
“Everyone has been great at the US embassy, but I understand these things take time,” he added.
“It’s now with the US board of control to get the last thing signed off, so it is where it is. The process is under way and fingers crossed if I don’t get on a flight on Sunday, let’s hope I’m not too far behind the team.
“Everyone seems keen to get an outcome so let’s just see how we go in the next 24-48 hours.”
