Calgary Flames Assign Joni Jurmo To ECHL’s Rapid City Rush

The Calgary Flames have assigned defenseman Joni Jurmo to the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush, it was announced Tuesday.

A product of Espoo, Finland, Jurmo has seen time this year with both the Rush and the Calgary Wranglers. While going pointless in 10 AHL games, Jurmo has collected two goals and five assists for seven points in nine ECHL games.

Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Jurmo spent parts of four seasons playing in Liiga before making his way to North America. Over 168 career regular season games in Finland’s top pro league, Jurmo had 28 points.

With Jurmo being reassigned to the ECHL, it is likely not going to be for long. Jurmo will likely make the jump to the Wranglers full time soon and could be an option for the Flames in a few seasons.
