Jets 2025 NFL Mock Draft Roundup: Experts torn on what New York will do at No. 7

After going through an extensive search following their separation from GM Joe Douglas, the Jets decided to take a shot on assistant GM Darren Mougey from the Denver Broncos.

Mougey held various positions during his journey through the organization, and he now comes to the Big Apple, where he’ll be tasked with helping turn around a squad that finished 5-12 last season and hasn’t made the playoffs in 14 years.

One of his first tasks to tackle – the NFL Draft.

After another rough season, Gang Green currently holds the seventh overall pick in the 2025 edition of the draft.

Here’s what the experts have them doing…

Cynthia Frelund, NFL.com

CB Will Johnson, Michigan

Apart from Sauce Gardner, nearly every other defensive back on the Jets’ two-deep is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March. Johnson’s experience in man and zone, along with his overall play strength, would complement Sauce’s style well. New coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey could choose to address corner in free agency, in which case, fellow Michigan man Mason Graham would provide a similar win-share uptick for New York.

WR Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona

Tetairoa McMillan is 6-foot-5, but he moves like a shifty slot receiver with the benefit of an enormous catch radius and the ability to make contested catches look easy. Think Drake London but a better athlete.

Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State

The analytics community won’t like this pick, but so be it. The Jets have a stagnant attack, and Breece Hall has not reached 1,000 yards rushing in any of his three seasons. Jeanty provides instant adrenaline to the offense and creates buzz in Aaron Glenn’s first season as head coach.

CB Will Johnson, Michigan

With Aaron Glenn now leading the Jets, Gang Green’s defensive identity isn’t going anywhere. In Detroit, Glenn deployed the highest rate of Cover 1 in 2024, emphasizing cornerbacks who excel in man coverage.

Johnson’s combination of size and understanding of leverage made him highly effective in those situations. He earned a 90.8 PFF grade in man coverage in 2022 and 2023 before battling injuries in 2024.

With D.J. Reed set to hit free agency, finding a cornerback to pair with Sauce Gardner will be a top priority for New York.

EDGE Abdul Carter, Penn State

Abdul Carter’s transition to EDGE brought out his pure talent, as the former five-star recruit racked up 12 sacks and 24 tackles for loss in 2024. It sounds cheap to say Micah Parsons is the ceiling, but Carter truly has the raw talent and the disposition to live up to that.

OT Will Campbell, LSU

The Jets need a quarterback, but reaching for someone like Jalen Milroe here when there are a few similar options who’ll be around when New York makes its second round selection (or potentially trades up into the back half of Day 1) would be a poor use of draft value. Instead, they can make life easier for whomever is taking snaps next fall and take 2025’s top offensive line prospect.

With Morgan Moses and Tyron Smith both pending free agents, New York needs a young pillar across from 2024 first rounder Olu Fashanu. Campbell is a big bodied, 6-foot-6 specimen who can keep pockets, and his quarterback’s jersey, clean. We’ll see how the pre-draft process affects his stock.

EDGE Mykel Williams, Georgia

I told you about my Will Campbell bet. Well, my other bet was on Mykel Williams. I won’t win that one, either, as Williams didn’t have a great season at Georgia in 2024, but he wasn’t fully healthy, either. To me, Williams is a fascinating player who can play and excel at multiple spots on a defensive line. He’s the kind of player I can see new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn falling for.
