Flames Recall Hunt, Reassign Bishop To Wranglers

The youth movement within the Calgary Flames continues. Early Thursday morning, the club announced that Dryden Hunt had been recalled from the Calgary Wranglers.

In a corresponding move, the Flames reassigned Clark Bishop to the Wranglers, where he will resume his duties as captain.

Earlier in the season, AHL All-Star Rory Kerins was the Wranglers’ top scorer, with 34 points in 34 games before the Flames called him up. Hunt overtook the team’s scoring lead in his absence and has 40 points in 41 games thanks to 12 goals and 28 assists. Currently, Hunt is the eighth-leading scorer in the AHL.

No stranger to NHL action, Hunt’s resume includes 230 games, 18 goals, and 51 points. He’s played with six teams, including the Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Flames.

Hunt last skated for Calgary last season, dressing for 28 games, including the final 24 games of the campaign. He scored three goals and eight points in those games and averaged 10:52 in ice time.

Meanwhile, with Hunt’s promotion, the Flames announced Bishop would return to the AHL. He’s in his first season as Wranglers captain and has 33 points in 39 games.

The Flames called him up in mid-January, and he played his first NHL game since Feb. 15, 2022, on Jan. 23. In a brief six-game stint, Bishop scored a goal against the Minnesota Wild and was minus-2 while averaging 7:15 in ice time.

Calgary plays the Colorado Avalanche at the Saddledome on Thursday night, while the Wranglers are still on their AHL All-Star break until Friday, when they resume their season on the road against the Hendersen Silver Knights.
