The Vegas Golden Knights sent scouts to each game during the Buffalo Sabres’ four-game homestand.
The Golden Knights and Sabres have a history of making deals. The two franchises collaborated in an agreement that saw Jack Eichel come to Vegas in exchange for Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, a 2022 first-round pick (Noah Ostlund) and a 2023 second-round pick. With familiarity between the two teams, it’s not all that surprising to see the Golden Knights closely monitoring some of the potential trade candidates on the Sabres.

Michael Augello of The Hockey News reported that “the club began to see an increasing amount of scouts since returning from their road swing through Western Canada, culminating with 13 clubs being represented on Tuesday, but over the four games, the club that was present for every game with multiple scouts was the Vegas Golden Knights.”
Sabres GM Kevyn Adams has been adamant that the team won’t be sellers at the deadline and are looking to extend pending UFAs Jason Zucker and Jordan Greenway despite the growing interest in the wingers. Another player who has seen his name called in many trade bait boards is 23-year-old Dylan Cozens. Adams has reiterated that the team is not looking to move him but it hasn’t stopped teams from calling about him.
Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon was recently on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio and stated that he thinks this years deadline will be a lot quieter on the Golden Knights front due to the large deals they made last season.
Acquiring Cozens would be difficult due to his long-term contract which pays him $7.1M per season but he would be a great fit and could learn under William Karlsson. Zucker and Greenway could be depth pieces but with healthy lineup and the recent signing of Brandon Saad, it’s difficult to see where they might fit.

McCrimmon and the Golden Knights have made a name for themselves by shocking the league and acquiring players with hefty price tags and could possibly be doing it again.
