Kraken Goaltender To Play 100th Game Of His Career

Seattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord will be the starting goaltender tonight against the Washington Capitals, playing in the 100th game of his career.

Daccord’s journey to the NHL was long and required hard work and patience. He made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators, the club that drafted him in the seventh round (199th overall) in the 2015 NHL draft, in the 2018-19 season. Daccord would go on to spend the entire following season in the AHL and ECHL before playing in eight games during the 2020-21 season.

The following two seasons were with the Kraken where he played in five games in both seasons. The 2023-24 season would prove to be a life-changing campaign for him. Up until that season, Daccord had played in 19 career games but he would go on to play in 50 games, posting a .916 SV% and a 2.46 GAA on a team that finished in the bottom 10 of the NHL standings.

The 28-year-old got off to an excellent start to the 2024-25 season and earned himself a five-year, $5M contract extension. This season he’s played in 30 games and has replicated his prior success, recording a .914 SV% and a 2.49 GAA.

Daccord has a vibrant personality that fans and teammates enjoy. That personality is why he has been able to get to the NHL and hear his name said alongside some of the best goaltenders in the NHL. He’s had to prove himself in the USHL, NCAA, ECHL and the AHL before proving doubters wrong again in the NHL.

He’s never had the opportunity to display his game on the International level but if he continues to stay consistent, it’s just a matter of time before a team comes knocking.

Tonight, Daccord will battle against Charlie Lindgren. Lindgren and Logan Thompson have been splitting most of the team’s starts but due to Thompson’s Vezina-calibre performances, he’s made six more starts. Despite that, Lindgren has posted solid numbers, recording a .901 SV% and a 2.65 GAA in 21 games. The duel between Daccord and Lindgren is one to watch and could be what decides the game.
