Matthew Knies appears to have suffered his second injury this season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs forward was throwing a check at Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko late in the second period when he fell to the ice awkwardly.
Knies stayed on the bench for the remainder of the second period and was checked over by Leafs’ head athletic therapist Paul Ayotte. But when the third period began, Knies stayed behind and the Leafs announced that the forward would not return.

Nick Robertson skated in the first shift without Knies in the third period. William Nylander also subbed in as Toronto was down 3-0 to Columbus at the time of Knies’ absence.
Knies has already been injured once this season. He hit his head on the ice after colliding with Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud on November 20. The 6-foot-3 power forward only missed a couple of games and returned to the lineup on November 30. He has 18 goals and 13 assists in 47 games this season.
