Arvid Soderblom’s Crazy Shootout Numbers for Blackhawks

Arvid Soderblom has played well this season for the Chicago Blackhawks, including in his last game where the team lost to the Nashville Predators in a shootout.

The young goalie has really turned things around from last season, but one thing remains the same, his inability to stop pucks in the shootout. While Soderblom has gone from a 3.92 GAA and .879 SV% last season to a 2.92 GAA and .907 SV% this season, he has still yet to make a save in the shootout. Opposing players have gone 9/9 against him in his career.

The most recent example came on Jan. 16 when Soderblom stopped 39 of 41 shots through regulation and overtime, but Gustav Nyquist, Ryan O’Reilly, and Steven Stamkos all scored on him to win the game.

This is something Soderblom is going to have to figure out as key points are won and lost in extra time. Opposing players can’t continue to step up and have the confidence they’ll score while the Blackhawks have the pressure of feeling like they have to score every opportunity or they’ll lose.

If Soderblom is going to be part of the plan moving forward as the Blackhawks hope to take a step closer to playoffs next season, they can’t lose every shootout the 25-year-old is involved in. It is going to be a big relief when he finally makes a stop in the shootout and he’ll likely get another opportunity to this season.
