Hull FC have appointed director of rugby Richie Myler as their chief executive with immediate effect.

The 34-year-old called time on his playing career last year in order to join the Airlie Birds as their director of rugby in April.

The club said the former England and Ireland international will combine the two roles going forward, meaning he will now oversee matters both on and off the field.

“I am delighted to take on the role of chief executive of such a prestigious club,” Myler said.

“We have assembled an experienced team within our performance department who are already making some great strides throughout pre-season.

“I feel confident in the progress they have made, which allows me to be able to spend more time and energy focused on other areas of the business.”

Myler’s appointment as CEO is less than a year into his duties at Hull FC, which itself came after his 18-year career in rugby league ended.

Having started out with Widnes Vikings, he took in spells at Salford Red Devils, Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons, Leeds Rhinos and finally York Knights.

He scored 208 tries in 401 senior games, including eight in eight for England as well as representing Ireland at the most recent Rugby League World Cup.

His latest role comes following a takeover of the Super League club by businessmen Andrew Thirkill and David Hudd, with experienced Australian John Cartwright coming in as head coach for 2025.

Thirkill served as president at Leeds from 2018 until October and is the father of Stephanie Thirkill, who is Myler’s partner.

The Black and Whites, who endured a dismal season in Super League in 2024 and won just three of their 27 matches, get their 2025 campaign under way away at Catalans Dragons on 14 February.

“As we venture into a new era, it’s vital everyone associated with the club – the board, players, staff, supporters and partners – pull together in the same direction to drive this club back to where we belong,” Myler added.

“We are well aware the path ahead of us will not be easy, but I feel we have a group of experienced individuals across the club that really care about restoring pride and passion in our badge.”
