Rams tight end Tyler Higbee’s long road back from tearing his ACL, MCL and meniscus ended at MetLife Stadium on Sunday and Higbee showed why the Rams were happy to have him back in the fourth quarter.
Three plays after forcing and recovering a fumble by Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford hit Higbee for an 11-yard score that broke a 9-9 tie and helped the Rams to a 19-9 win that pushed them closer to a division title. Higbee called it a “special” moment and part of an emotional day that left him humbled by “the love and support I got from these guys and this team and the staff.”
“I thought it was awesome,” Stafford said, via the team’s website. “Was so happy for him. Just happy for him to get out there and play, and then to be able to cap it off with a touchdown, with a great effort at the end to get it in. It was awesome. Great to have him back, and just a tone-setter for us.”
It was Higbee’s only catch of the day, but he had a hand on blocking for running back Kyren Williams as Williams picked up 123 yards and it was a sign that the Rams have a little more depth to work with as they try to nail down the NFC West in the final weeks of the regular season.
