The Premier League action continues this afternoon as Rúben Amorim takes charge of his first Manchester Utd game as they make the trip to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town.
Since his appointment in early November, there has been an air of intrigue around Amorin’s approach to training and particularly if he will set his team up in his preferred 3-4-3 formation. It was often a criticism of Amorin’s predecessor, Erik Ten Hag, that Man Utd had no defined style of play and often looked lacklustre in terms of both effort and overall character. There appears to be an acceptance that Amorin will need to be given time to implement his preferred tactics and style of play, however Red Devil fans will be hoping that today’s game at least provides some initial insights into what Amorin’s longer-term approach will be.
The Tractor Boys have made an indifferent start to the season and are yet to win at home despite some battling displays. However, they caused a shock in their last Premier League game when they stunned Spurs with a 2-1 victory and in Liam Delap they have a striker bang in form who has scored 50% of Ipswich’s league goals so far this term (6 goals).
It will be a tough ask for the Tractor Boys though as Man Utd are unbeaten in their past 19 games against newly promoted sides (17 wins, 2 draws). This record gets even better for Red Devil fans as United have won their past 9 away league games against newly promoted sides. An ominous warning for Ipswich is that no newly promoted team has ever managed to beat the drop without winning at least one of their first 6 league games at home (the Tractor Boys have drawn three and lost 2 of their first 5 home league games).
The Sports Alert News prediction is a confident 3-1 victory for Manchester United to start Rúben Amorim tenure with a victory.
