Bournemouth 2-1 Man City
Ipswich Town 1-1 Leicester City
Liverpool 2-1 Brighton
Nottingham Forest 3-0 West Ham United
Southampton 1-0 Everton
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 Crystal Palace
Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Aston Villa
Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
Fulham 2-1 Brentford
Here we go, let’s check out the Sports Alert News Team power rankings for this week:
1) Liverpool – they were made to work hard by Brighton, however a quickfire second-half double from Cody Gakpo and who else but Mohammed Salah secured victory for the Reds. The win also ensured a return to the top of the table after Man City’s surprise defeat to Bournemouth. Given Liverpool play title contenders Man City and Champions League chasing Aston Villa in 2 of their next 3 league games, this victory can be considered even more important to Liverpool’s title credentials.
2) Nottingham Forest – the surprise of the season so far sees the Tricky Trees move into the Champions League places after a convincing 3-0 home victory versus West Ham. With only 7 league goals conceded so far this season, Forest have the second best defence, with only top of the table Liverpool conceding fewer goals. The question remains how long Forest can keep their run going, however given their current form it is a happy time to be a Nottingham Forest fan.
3) Chelsea – maintained their Champions League place with a battling 1-1 draw at Old Trafford versus Man Utd and could perhaps have returned to West London with all three points. Are maintaining their form under new boss Enzo Maresca and have the attacking talent to keep progressing as the season continues.
4) Tottenham Hotspur – another comeback win for Spurs as their second-half performance ripped apart Aston Villa as they secured an impressive 4-1 victory. Now the top scorers in the Premier League with 22 goals, Ange Postecoglou’s entertainers need to demonstrate a level of consistency that will move them into the Top 4.
5) Newcastle United – are the Magpies finally getting back to the form that was shown previously under Eddie Howe when they secured Champions League football? The key will be to keep Alexander Isak fit and firing after his brilliant header secured a 1-0 victory against Arsenal. Although still in mid-table, Newcastle are only 3 points off the top 4 and victory against a pre-season title favorite could give them the impetus to now go on a run of positive results.
