Here we go, let’s check out the Sports Alert News Team power rankings for this week:
1) Liverpool – retained their place at the top of the table and in our power rankings with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Chelsea at Anfield. Apart from a surprise home defeat to Nottingham Forest, the Reds have started the season superbly and must be considered as serious title contenders especially given the firepower at their disposal. Curtis Jones grabbed what proved to be the winner with a classy finish whilst also putting in one of his best performances in a Liverpool shirt.
2) Man City – the champions were pushed all the way by a spirited Wolves team, however John Stones came to the rescue with a controversial winner in the 95th minute. The Citizens weren’t at their fluent best, however as all champions do, they find a way to win. Man City are now the only team in the league with an unbeaten record and remain the favorites to capture a 5th straight title.
3) Aston Villa – a great away victory at Fulham after coming from behind to secure a 3-1 win and maintain their Top 4 position. With a young attacking team and experienced head coach in Unai Emery, the Villans are establishing themselves as a premier league force, with Emery already stating this team should be developing a mentality of champions. Looking strong for another Top 4 finish this season.
4) Brighton – secured a brilliant 1-0 away victory versus Newcastle at St James Park through a composed finish from Danny Welbeck. Having beaten both Tottenham and Newcastle in their past two league games, the Seagulls have to be considered as serious contenders for a European qualification spot. A lot will depend on keeping their key players fit, however Fabian Hurzeler is doing a great job at will look to maintain this current form.
5) Tottenham Hotspur – put the disappointment of the Brighton collapse behind them with a convincing 4-1 victory against London rivals West Ham United. With 18 league goals already this season, Ange Postecoglou’s attacking approach means they are the second top scorers in the league behind only champions Man City. The problem is can they maintain a level of consistency that will move them closer to the Top 4?
